Closed testing

Install WiWi on your TV
and on your phone.

WiWi is free and is not on Google Play yet. During testing, builds are installed directly from this page. Two minutes on the phone, about five on the TV.

Getting WiWi onto a television

An Android TV has no web browser, so the download button above cannot reach it directly. Pick whichever of these three routes suits you — the first one is what most testers use.

Easiest

Use the Downloader app

  1. Install Downloader. On the TV, open the Play Store and search for Downloader by AFTVnews. It is free.
  2. Allow it to install apps. Go to Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, and switch on Downloader. Wording varies slightly by TV brand.
  3. Enter the address. Open Downloader and type wiwi.tv/WiWiTV.apk into the URL box, then press Go.
  4. Install. When the download finishes, choose Install, then Done. WiWi appears in your apps list.
No extra app

Send it from your phone

  1. On the TV, install Send Files to TV from the Play Store and open it, then choose Receive.
  2. On your phone, install the same app, and download the TV build from wiwi.tv/WiWiTV.apk — or scan this: QR code linking to wiwi.tv/WiWiTV.apk
  3. Send the file. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi. Pick the APK, pick your TV.
  4. Install it on the TV using a file manager, allowing unknown sources when asked.
For developers

Install over ADB

  1. Enable developer options on the TV: Settings → Device Preferences → About, then click Build seven times.
  2. Turn on USB/network debugging in Developer options, and note the TV's IP address.
  3. Connect and install from your computer: adb connect TV_IP:5555
    adb install -r wiwi-tv-latest.apk

Installed it?

The remote does more than it looks like it does. The quick tour covers the three-column layout, the player controls and what every button is for.

Read the guide
Only install WiWi builds that come from wiwi.tv. Every build on this page is listed with its SHA-256 checksum so you can verify the file you received. When WiWi reaches Google Play, these direct downloads are replaced by the store listing.

What we would like you to try

You are using a pre-release build. Rough edges are expected — telling us about them is the point.

◎

Setup and country

Create your free account, pick your country, and check that the first screen shows news that actually belongs to where you live.

▶

Playback

Start several videos in a row. Note anything that fails to play, stalls, plays the wrong clip, or shows a thumbnail that does not match the story.

▣

Remote and navigation

On the TV, move around with the remote only. Tell us where focus gets lost, where Back does the wrong thing, or where you get stuck.

Found something?

Send us the build number from the card above, your device model, and what you were doing. A screenshot or a short screen recording helps more than anything else.
